The Department of Orthopaedics at SMCRI offers a wide range of services aimed at treating musculoskeletal disorders and injuries. Our services include both non-surgical and surgical treatments for a variety of orthopedic conditions. Trauma and Emergency Orthopaedics:

• Trauma Care: The department provides immediate treatment for orthopedic trauma, including fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue injuries, with a focus on early mobilization and functional recovery.
• Accident and Emergency Services: 24/7 emergency care for patients involved in accidents, falls, or sports injuries. This includes fracture management, wound care, and immediate stabilization of musculoskeletal injuries.
• Polytrauma Management: Specialized care for patients who have multiple injuries affecting various systems of the body, ensuring comprehensive care and recovery.

Joint Replacement Surgery:

• Hip and Knee Replacements: We perform advanced joint replacement surgeries, including total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR), using the latest techniques and materials. These procedures aim to restore mobility and relieve pain in patients suffering from arthritis and degenerative joint diseases.
• Arthroscopic Surgeries: Minimally invasive procedures to treat joint problems, including arthroscopy for knee, shoulder, and ankle disorders. This technique reduces recovery time, minimizes scarring, and allows faster return to normal activity.

Sports Medicine:

• Sports Injuries: Treatment of injuries related to sports activities, such as ligament sprains, muscle strains, fractures, and tendon injuries. The department provides both non-surgical management and surgical interventions, including arthroscopic procedures.
• Rehabilitation: Comprehensive rehabilitation services to help athletes and active individuals recover fully from injuries and improve their performance.

Pediatric Orthopaedics:

• Congenital Deformities: Diagnosis and treatment of congenital orthopedic conditions such as clubfoot, developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), and limb length discrepancies.
• Growth-related Issues: Treatment for conditions affecting children’s growth, such as scoliosis, juvenile arthritis, and skeletal deformities.

Spine Care:

• Spinal Disorders: Diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the spine, including scoliosis, spondylosis, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and trauma-related spinal injuries.
• Spinal Surgery: Surgical interventions, including spinal fusion and minimally invasive spine surgery, to treat degenerative conditions, deformities, and fractures.

Arthritis and Degenerative Joint Diseases:

• Osteoarthritis: Management of joint pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis, including medical therapy, physical therapy, and surgical options like joint replacement.
• Rheumatoid Arthritis: Comprehensive care for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, including pharmacologic treatments and surgical interventions when necessary.

Orthopaedic Rehabilitation:

• Physical Therapy: Our department offers specialized physical therapy services for pre- and post-operative rehabilitation, injury recovery, and improving mobility.
• Pain Management: We employ various pain management strategies, including physiotherapy, injections, medications, and other techniques to help manage chronic musculoskeletal pain.

Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors:

• Benign and Malignant Tumors: Diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors, including surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy when necessary.
• Limb Salvage Surgery: Advanced surgical techniques to preserve limb function and appearance in cases of malignant bone and soft tissue tumors.

Orthopedic Surgery:

• General Orthopedic Surgery: Treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including fractures, dislocations, tendon injuries, and ligament tears.
• Minimally Invasive Surgery: Adoption of modern surgical techniques, such as minimally invasive fracture fixation, arthroscopy, and robotic-assisted surgeries, to reduce recovery times and improve outcomes.

Academic and Clinical Training

The Department of Orthopaedics at SMCRI plays an integral role in the education and training of medical students, as well as postgraduate residents. The department provides rigorous academic programs and hands-on training, ensuring that students and residents gain comprehensive knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of orthopedic conditions.

• Clinical Rotations: Undergraduate MBBS students undergo rotations in Orthopaedics, where they gain exposure to common orthopedic conditions, fractures, joint disorders, and the basics of trauma care.
• Postgraduate Training: The department offers training for MD/MS (Orthopaedics) residents in advanced surgical techniques, trauma management, and subspecialty areas such as spine surgery and joint replacement.
• Workshops and Seminars: Regular seminars, case discussions, and workshops are organized to enhance learning and keep the faculty and students updated on the latest developments in orthopedic care.
