Siddaganga Medical College and Research Institute hosted a heart-warming felicitation ceremony on 27/07/2026 to honour Padma Shri awardee Dr. Suresh Hanagavadi for his extraordinary contributions to medicine and social service. Diagnosed with severe hemophilia in early childhood, Dr. Hanagavadi’s life was fraught with intense physical pain and frequent hospitalizations. However, rather than letting his condition define him, he transformed personal adversity into a lifelong mission to serve others.
Addressing the aspiring medical students and staff, Dr. Hanagavadi delivered a deeply moving motivational talk tracing his remarkable journey from a struggling patient to a renowned hematologist and pioneer in bleeding disorder care. Driven by the tragic loss of his uncle to the same disorder, he established the Karnataka Hemophilia Society, providing free care, rehabilitation, and life-saving treatments to thousands. His tireless service, ground-breaking advocacy, and relentless commitment to improving healthcare accessibility make this prestigious Padma Shri Award deeply deserved. He is a living masterclass in empathy, leadership, and resilience for our future doctors.
He urged the students to view medical science not merely as a profession, but as an instrument of empathy and change. "Your limitations are only as large as your mind permits them to be," he reminded the audience, embodying how perseverance can turn personal trials into a beacon of hope for an entire nation. His inspiring message left a profound mark on everyone present.
